This grey disk pitcher is mint; I can find no flaws to mention. The lighter streaks in the photos are the result of glare from the clear plastic that I had over the tablecloth on picture day.

The vintage Green Disk Pitcher is beautiful with a rich, even glaze. It is near mint, but not perfect. In the left-hand photo, there is a glaze miss near the center of the disk that shows as a light spot in the glaze. In the center photo, at about 9 o'clock near the outer ring, you can see another light spot, a glaze nip or chip where part of the color has been removed. There is also a second glaze skip near the spout, not visible.

A lovely ivory pitcher. No chips, flakes, cracks or crazing. There are faint quality control letters on the left side of the base photo, just on the inside of the dry foot; they are a little blurry when examined closely, perhaps "JB"? Finally, in the far right photo, you can see some clay bumps down on the lower side of the pitcher itself. The glaze is also a little lighter in this area.

Telling the Difference between Old and New

Turquoise Disk Pitcher - inside Red Disk Pitcher - inside Ivory Disk Pitcher - inside Green Disk Pitcher - inside

A turquoise pitcher,
New or Old?

Looking inside, where the handle meets the body.

The surest way to tell the difference between a vintage and a new disk pitcher (that I know of) is to examine the inside of the pitcher where the top of the handle meets the body. If the pitcher is old, this area should be almost flat, as it is in the photos above. If the pitcher is new, there will be an indention there. I think that this is due to higher firing temperatures used now and greater shrinkage of the clay in the newer pieces because of these temps. The four shots above are all of old pitchers, for your reference.
