I found this casserole shown in a photo of a page from a 1901 Homer Laughlin Company Catalogue - see Homer Laughlin China Guide to Shapes and Patterns by Jo Cunningham and Darlene Nossman, p. 54 (2002). It is a beautiful example of the company's early work and is at least a century old.

On the inside of the lid is stamped the number 4721. This is under the clear glaze and may be the decal or decoration number since a specific design was commonly numbered, not named, by the factory.

Classic white sauce boat in excellent condition (no chips, cracks, crazing, etc.). Please note the base mark shown in the right-hand photo. This mark was used up until 1904 and shows the Laughlin eagle over the British lion, all inside a circular band with the words "Laughlin semi-vitreous china". The "Colonial" designation is stamped below.
