The Angelus Bowl Base with Mark

LAC Orange Bowl Base

This bowl is mint with no chips, cracks, crazing, usage scratches or marks of discoloration. It is 10 3/8" wide from handle tip to handle tip and stands 3" tall.

I thought that this bowl was interesting because of its similarities to the Art China bowl, produced about the same time, in the second photo from the left. It is about the same size with dots along the top rim and base; the base rings, shown in the last two photos, are the very similar although each bowl has a different mark, of course. "The Angelus" bowl does not have the undulating rim that the Art China bowl has and the handles are different and typical of "The Angelus" line.

No longer available. I gave it to a friend who redecorated her kitchen after a fire.

The Angelus Inside the Bowl

This casserole is one of several that appear in The Angelus line. A photo of this shape, with a different decal, is shown on page 19 of Cunningham and Nossman's book Homer Laughlin China Guide to Shapes and Patterns in their description of the line. With its delicate design and intricate pattern, it seems amazing to me that it has survived for approximately a century with no chips or cracks! The decoration number is written in gold on the underside of the lid (middle photo above). In side the bowl, there are two small, faintly brown discolored areas visible in the photo on the right.

The base of the bowl has a few, faint craze lines. These are not discolored and are very inconspicuous. Finally, the base mark shows the Laughlin Eagle over the British Lion with the words "White Granite below".
