The table below shows all the trails published as of today by state in alphabetical order. The number preceding the state name corresponds to the map above. The trail names are in the left column and have links that will take you to the Spanish version of the Bicimapa. All the information there is self explanatory except for the description and access which we provide in English on the right column of this table. At the bottom of each Bicimapa page you will find links to the main English page as well as this index. If you decide to take a chance and navigate to other Spanish pages, you will find links at the bottom to come back to the English Edition.

To download themRIGHT CLICK  on the link and select the “Save Target as” option. The “Save As”  dialog box will pop out for you to choose the directory where you want to place the file.

The Abelardo L. Rodriguez dam is located nearby the city of Tijuana close to  the Mexico/US border. The land is deserted and offers great riding opportunity. Bring lots of water.

La vuelta al Valle de México

 

The longest and most epic of our routes. This one surrounds the Mexico City Valley in about 400 km.  It takes about 7 days straight to complete unsupported. A great option to take a look at Mexico City from a new perspective. It passes through woods, volcanoes, beautiful valleys, friendly villages and towns.

Chalma is a very famous town in Mexico because of Religion traditions. It is in the middle of forest covered mountains south of Mexico City and west of Cuernavaca, the capital city of the state of Morelos. It is an epic ride of about 65 Km. With magnificent landscapes and challenging terrain.

Located at the northwest of Mexico City  is  Chiluca,  one of the traditional mountain biking  areas of the city. With more than 500 km. of trails it offers limitless options to ride. These trails include most of  the classical routes of the area as well as several not often visited. One of them known as “El Zorro” passes through the area   that was used as a location  to film the  Hollywood movie of El Zorro, with Antonio Banderas. That is how it got its name.

At the south of Mexico City you will find a volcano known as El Ajusco. A lot of riding opportunities are available in this area as you will se below. These 3 routes are some of the options and two of them will take you to the heart of the City of Cuernavaca, the  capital city of the state of Morelos,  also known as “The never ending spring City”.

The Zempoala lagoons are located in the State of Morelos in the middle of old extinguished volcanoes surrounded by pine woods. Great riding in a very easy terrain.

At the south of Mexico City you will find a volcano know as El Ajusco. The park  San Nicolas Totoloapan (SNT) was the first Mountain Bike specific developed park and Axosco was the second one. They all offer great riding without having to get to far from the city. The other trails listed provide further  great options in the nearby area. If you compare the maps you will see that several of them can be linked to make for longer rides.

 

Circuito San Rafael-Iztaccíhuatl

To the east of Mexico City we have the second and third highest volcanoes of the country known as Iztaccihuatl (Izta for short) and Popocatepetl (Popo for short). The Popo is an active volcanoe. These two trails pass along the Izta in the middle of beautiful forests. The Llano Grande Amecameca trail is an epic ride of 70 or so Km with a final descent from 3800 meters (11200 feet) to  2300 meters (6900) in 22 kilometers.  The San Rafael-Izta trail is a circuit that takes you through the same forests but in a shorter ride.

Convento/Pantanos, Desierto de Los Leones   To the west of Mexico City and in the middle of the way to the city of Toluca, the capital of the state of Mexico, there are several National Parks including "El Desierto de los Leones" and "La Marquesa". "El Desierto de los Leones", still part of Mexico City and very close to the border with the State of Mexico, provides very nice and challenging trails and are a very short drive away from both cities.

Durango    New Durango is a very famous state in the movie making industry as has been the location of choice for several very famous films. It has contrasts in ecosystems ranging form the desert to high mountain pine forests.

El Chico, Hidalgo

Hidalgo is known as “The Mexican Switzerland” because of the beautiful forests and landscapes. Home to some of the best rock climbing areas in the country and several adventure races held in our country. Here we offer two options that cross this beautiful area. Located North of the state capital city of Pachuca is the village of “El Chico” from where most of the trails start. Several specialized guiding services are available.

This is an area to the west of the city of Toluca very close to the Nevado de Toluca Volcano. There are hundreds of kilometers of trails waiting to be ridden. Among them:

Tuneles/Valle

A very noteworthy trail that goes through a series of tunnels that were handmade about 200 years ago by farmers in the need of faster and easier ways to take their merchandise to their customers.

El Mapa

This is one of our favorite trails to teach orienteering and map interpretation. The   open views allow for easy identification  of land shapes and compare them to contour lines on the map.

El Mapa/Las Cruces

This trail a 12 Km. (7.5 miles) climb from 3100 meters (9300 feet) to 3650 meters (10950 feet) in a beautiful pine forest. The views are great and oxygen is hard to find.

 

 

Nevado de Toluca

The Nevado de Toluca volcano is the only one in the world we know of which you can get into the crater driving your car or on your MTB. There is a fire road that climbs into the crater where the Sun and Moon lagoons are. In the Moon Lagoon which is very deep, divers have found very old artscrafts and human bones for which it is assumed was used for human sacrifices to the gods by pre spanic inhabitants. Here we offer two options to ride into the crater and around the volcano. Located west of the state capital city of Toluca.

Godínez Peñón (Valle de Bravo)

Valle de Bravo is a very famous town in this state because of all the outdoor activity in the area such as mountain biking, horseback riding, paragliding, hangliding, all sorts of water sports.  Located in the middle of a pine tree forest, it is a very charming place. These trails are only a few of the many options available.

 

Nevado de Toluca a Valle de Bravo

An epic ride from the Nevado de Toluca Volcano to the village of Valle de Bravo. About 60 km. Of riding in about 8 hours. We have now 2 options to do it. Check them out.

 

Parque Sierra Morelos 

 

This is a muli activity park located on the west side of the city of Toluca. It is an ideal place to train in weekdays as it is very close to the city and offers an easy riding trail system. The landscape is great too.
Valle del Conejo/Túnel del Tiempo    To the west of Mexico City and in the middle of the way to the city of Toluca, the capital of the state of Mexico, there are several National Parks including "El Desierto de los Leones" and "La Marquesa". "La Marquesa", still part of the State of Mexico and very close to the border with Mexico City, provides very nice and challenging trails and are a very short drive away from both cities.

The state of Morelos is located south of Mexico City. This trails lead to the village of Tepoztlan, very famous for frequent UFO sightings. The trails run through forests in the middle of volcanic landscapes and end with an adrenaline charged downhill to the village.

Piedras Encimadas a Zacatlán

 

The "Piedras Encimadas” National park is famous because of the stone formations which seem to be layered one over the other. Close by is the village of Zacatlán very famous for its apples and great scenery. This trail gets you from the park to the village in the middle of magnificent woods and rock formations.

These are classic rides close to the city of Puebla, the state capital.  A great choice if you visit this city.

Pico de Orizaba a Veracruz

The state of Veracruz, located in the gulf of Mexico has some of the most exciting outdoor activities. From scuba diving to rafting and kayaking, you can be certain there are lots of adventures waiting for you. This epic ride will take you from the side hills of Mexico's highest Volcanoe, El Pico de Orizaba to the port of Veracruz. A 3day adventure descending from 4300 meters (12900 feet) above sea level to the sea, in 220 kilometers.
